I was initially contracted to Walter Industries to manage their SQL 2000 financial databases in a technical/DBA role, as well as take over development on a long on-going effort to build an intranet.
The existing intranet was very out-dated and developed in Microsoft FrontPage. It was terrible in appearance, functionality, and management. I proposed building a new intranet from scratch, that would enable administrative individuals to simply update the contents by filling out web forms in a secured area. This would allow people to have no need for FrontPage or other web-editing training, and to just simply make the changes as structured by the intranet itself. Most of the information displayed on the intranet was stored in a SQL database and pulled out dynamically, minus the information that would rarely if ever need updating. |
